So just thought id share with you all an epic archwork FAIL!

after rolling my arch it looked really rough and was not happy with it, so read up alot about it and seen people considered angle grinding the inside lip off completely insteed of rolling it so............

I gave it a go

this is what i was left with

now take a good look and think twice before taking an angle grinder to your arch

i would NOT recomend it

now I'm left to sort it GREAT!

u beat me to it........i nearlly grabbed the grinder yesterday to work on pollys arches, but i opted for a lump hammer and just twa77ed the hell out of them instead. i have to say, mine have ended up slightly better then yours, lol!!

was it the front or rear arch?? (only had a brief look at 1 pic) if its the front a new wing might be a cheaper option now!!

New rear 1/4 in my opinion or alot of welding. You're going to spend more money putting that right that the cost of someone rolling the arches

how easy is it to replace a polo rear quater so the rear arches are rust free?? i can imagen its a body shop job and a large wod of cash needed??

Shame your not local i'd of had a bash at welding it up for you. The cheapest option imo (other than just welding it back together), would be to get some replacement arches, cut yours out, weld them in then weld the inner skin to that. It would be cheaper and easier than replacing the whole quarter panel, infact a reshell would be cheaper and easier than that imo.

You has to cut out the buggered (rusty?) bit and cut the reapair panel to the same shape. Then weld it in. If you just used the outer skin, you'd have to weld outer and inner together. Then it had to be ground, filled and painted. As mentioned above, on a polo, a re-shell is a cheaper option unless you can do the work. However, if it's only a little bit rusty, obviously costs are going to be lower as less to cut out

do it the ruff way..

1: few spot welds (to hold the to seams together)

2: seam sealer (to protect and fill it in)

3: we bit of paint. (to blend it in)

I panel beat mine back on themselves, skimmed with filler then painted them.

How much of the inner arch have you cut away? I'd find a shitty MK2 and cut both sections of the arch out of that and repair yours. If you plan on keeping the car I wouldn't bodge it back together, if you are planning on getting rid of it then do as 13k says.

indeed its a major fuck up ,no i did not know it was double skined .........well i bloody do now i guess some of us learn the hard way for some reason its always me :(

i wacked some filter in the gap for now just to seal it cars not going anywhere atm conversion in progress etc

just a bloody shame was looking good before this hope i can get it looking good..ishh again

Well I always live by the saying... you gotta make a mistake to learn from it.

It's repairable, got any mates who are handy at welding in repair panels? I wouldn't try to fix it as it is, would just be a bodge.

yeah i know someone who welds just gotta gett my car running to take it there

when its running I'm sure he wont mind welding it up

You need either:

a: A set of arch trims from Hadrians

b: to be sectioned.

I think the Latter would be more fitting
