DSLR is the best bet bud! Don't go down the route of a compact as it will be a waist of money, I tell most of my friends who want camera's to go to the high street shops and look for 1 you like and feel. Using it in the shop as well can help prove how good they are. I got a cannon 550D for less than £500 Brand new!! Such a good camera and takes clear picture perfect shots. Build thread for example

Try high street shops, if not result to the internet, Try Bignorman.com. Got mine from here with wicked prices. :)
