Burgundy(?) 1.4cl new build

Featured Replies

Right... after having my mk3 sitting on my drive for a few years I finally got on the road last november and had a lot of fun driving that thing. Sadly had a bump in it around april and mashed up the front end and it was all downhill from there. I encountered loads of oil leak problems and the like over the year driving it and it was very unreliable. I basically rebuilt the engine but it was a lost cause due to other problems and its time for it to go. I DJ in bristol a lot and had to cancel one of my biggest bookings after she broke down on the way back from a different gig in bristol the night before so I thought I would pick up something a bit newer for when my M.O.T, Tax and insurance ran out on it rather than trying to keep that thing going.

After months (and months and months) of looking for tdi passats and mk4/mk3 golfs I eventually went back to the polo and picked up this 6n locally. It's a 1.4cl in a really nice colour IMO and is a lot tidier than pretty much all of the other cars I went to see. It's got the odd rust blister and has had a little reweld job on the passenger door sill as the rust was within 6" of the seat belt mount (i think thats the reason?) but besides that I'm very happy with it. Its' pretty much dent free and its nice to have something with a bit more oomph than my 1l mk3.

Here she is the day i got her...

Spent the next week cleaning it up nicer and polishing out scratches and doing the usual and de badged the rear, de wipered and de side stripped it. I also replaced a mirror and fitted clear front indies and wind deflectors as i got them cheap.

The rear before de-wipering

Plans:

All red rears with some smoke to blend them into the darker paint a bit.

Clear side repeaters

Pressed plates (could someone clear up the laws on this as I'm a bit hazy on them)

Coilies (should hopefully get some cheap off the mate whos breaking his)

Uprated soundsystem

Refurb the standard steels and spray them cream and then maybe colour code the VW badges that i left on with the colour of the wheels.

280mm steering wheel.

New seats perhaps.... but the ones in her are way nicer than my mk3's.

Few bits I need to fix:

Drivers side window motor is a bit knackered, I'm sure there will be something in the electrical FAQ's though.

Glove box hinges have snapped off.

Probably some other little bits I've forgotten about.

Insurance Tax and MOT runs out at the end of the month

Almost forgot....

I love my clothes and shoes and found this sick air freshener to match my fav pair of air max ones. It also matches the colour of the car. Good deals!

I like the colour and you can get pressed plates of Ebay for £25 for the pair, there fully legal.

Alright so someone broke into this in bristol and jacked my ipod and head unit. Had only been driving it for 4 days :(.
They damaged around the drivers handle and mashed up the locking mechanism. Kinda fixed with bits from the passenger side bu that broke so i need to get new handles and barrels because they are all knackered now.

Strangely though the thieves left a louis vuitton bag and some Nike air force ones which were definitely worth more than the head unit and ipod combined.

Been driving it for just over a week now. Loving having a bit of extra power over my old 1l mk3.

Here's a pic of the plans...

Looks nice how it is, a shame about the incident

Managed to sort out the rears but had to go to work... after work i started on the front but the bottom bolts on the original shocks were all seized up so i put some wd40 on em to hopefully free them when i try again on my day off on tuesday.

here she is at work. still got 20mm left to wind down but as the fronts arent on that would be stupid.

I'm very pleased with how its going.
