I’ve spent ages searching this forum and others but can’t seem to find much information on brake options for the 6n2.

 

I’ve a 1.0mpi and want to upgrade the stopping power.

Now I know I can convert the rear to discs from the GTi, but there seems to be very little info on what upgrades are available for the front.

 

Will the GTi setup be an upgrade on the front?

 

Should I look at the G60 setup?

 

or are there other options?

 

Only limitation will they will need to fit under 15” wheels.

The GTi brakes would be a significant upgrade 256 x 20mm as to your current 239 x18mm but you would need to replace the hub units to the GTi ones as the caliper mounting is different and that upgrade will fit under 15" rims

With the GTi hubs, you could fit 288mm discs but I don't think you will clear on a 15" rim

Whats the smallest wheel size that can be run withthe GTi setup? 

Is it the disc or the caliper that restricts the wheel size?

The standard wheel size on the GTi is 15" but I think people have used 14" rims with the 256mm setup, might pay to have a look through some of the build threads ?

they will clear 14" 

 

Ultimately it's the clearance to the caliper that is the problem and obviously the bigger the disc the further out the caliper will be.

So the GTi setup should fit under 14” wheels.

 

Will have to get on the hunt for front brake setup and hubs now.

 

The 1.4 TDi and the 1.4 16V 6N2's also uses the same setup as the GTi
